How We Work
Every Kingston 3 engagement follows a disciplined, four-phase process designed to move you from initial conversation to measurable impact — without shortcuts, without noise.
The Kingston 3 Philosophy
After 17 years in journalism, Fabian Lyon learned one thing above all others: the stories that matter are built on a foundation of deep research, clear thinking, and deliberate strategy. There is no shortcut. There is no "spray and pray."
The Kingston 3 process reflects that discipline. Every engagement starts with listening before anything else — understanding your goals, your existing narrative, your audiences, and your competitive landscape. Only then do we build.
The result is strategy that holds — not a collection of tactics that look busy but produce nothing lasting.

The Process
Before we say a single word about your strategy, we listen. Deeply and without agenda.
The Discovery phase begins with an intensive onboarding conversation — not a brief intake form, but a real dialogue. We want to understand your goals, your current narrative position, how you are perceived publicly versus how you want to be perceived, and what obstacles have stood between you and the influence you deserve.
We then conduct a comprehensive landscape audit: existing media coverage, competitive positioning, current messaging, stakeholder ecosystem, and any prior communications work. This gives us the full picture before we begin building.
By the end of Discovery, we have a shared understanding of exactly where you are, where you want to go, and what it will take to get there — without illusions, without flattery.
Your narrative is not a slogan. It is a strategic architecture that every piece of public communication is built on.
In the Architecture phase, we build the foundational framework that will guide every element of your engagement. This begins with your core narrative — the through-line that makes you, your work, and your goals coherent to any audience in any medium.
We then develop the full strategic blueprint: target media ecosystems and journalists, messaging frameworks for different audiences, content and editorial strategy, a media placement roadmap, and the specific tactics that will be deployed in Phase 3. For literary clients, this phase includes book concept architecture and proposal development. For advocacy clients, it includes the coalition strategy and campaign messaging framework.
Nothing moves until this architecture is solid. This is where most engagements are actually won or lost.
Strategy without execution is just a document. This is where Kingston 3 goes to work.
The Activation phase is where the blueprint becomes reality. We begin deploying the media strategy — pitching journalists with precision-crafted, newsroom-ready angles; developing and placing op-eds and editorial content; executing on literary submission strategy; or launching advocacy campaign components depending on your engagement type.
Throughout Activation, Fabian is directly engaged — not delegating to junior associates. Every pitch, every relationship activation, every piece of written content that goes under your name is crafted with 17 years of editorial expertise behind it.
We provide regular progress updates and maintain full transparency about what is moving, what is in progress, and what adjustments are being made in real time based on market and editorial response.
A single media placement is not a strategy. Compounding presence is.
In the Amplification phase, we take what is working and build velocity behind it. Every earned media placement becomes a credibility asset to be leveraged for the next. Every speaking appearance opens a new door. Every published piece strengthens your positioning as the authoritative voice in your space.
We measure what matters — not vanity metrics, but actual indicators of narrative influence: quality and tier of media placements, share of voice in your issue area, audience engagement with editorial content, and progress toward the specific goals defined in Discovery.
We also build the infrastructure for sustained influence after the engagement: an editorial pipeline, a media relationship network, a speaking strategy, and the documented messaging frameworks your team can carry forward.
Our Principles
Every strategy, pitch, and piece of content is built to the standard of a seasoned editor — because that is the standard journalists hold it to. There is no "good enough" at Kingston 3.
We do not send 200 emails and hope something lands. We identify the exact right targets, build the exact right case, and deploy at the exact right moment. Quality of reach matters more than quantity.
Fabian's network was built over 17 years of genuine relationship-building inside the media industry. Every contact is a real relationship — which is why they respond, and why they keep responding.
We optimize for sustained influence, not one-time hits. Every tactic is chosen with the question: does this compound over time, or does it just look good in the short term?
You will always know what we are doing, why we are doing it, and what the results are. No black box strategy. No inflated metrics. No hiding behind vague deliverables.
Kingston 3 takes on a deliberately limited number of clients at any time. Because doing this work well requires undivided attention — and undivided attention is what you will get.
